Friday Five

1) The Boy is growing! He had his 4 month doctor check up this week and he is getting longer and leaner... sounds so familiar. He is at 13 lbs 2.3 oz., in the 20th percentile for weight, and 25 3/4 inches, the 75th percentile for height. He had to get three shots, poor little guy. Yes, almost exactly what The Girl was at his age. He has been much more social and sleeping less at night. I thought it was supposed to be more as they get older. Hmmm. (The Girl took this picture, by the way).

2) The Girl is such a character. She asked me to come find her and I knew she was hiding behind the tv so I grabbed the camera and surprised her with a flash. She squealed in delight and wanted me to find her with the camera a half dozen more times. We are starting preschool next week and I'm soo excited! We will do a rotating homes schedule twice a week, so I get to teach her and 3 friends one week of the month and have some free time to run errands like 6 more times a month! That will be soo awesome! I know she is going to love it!

3) Yard Work: T and I have been working hard making our yard look nice. Last Saturday we stained the playground set. It was hot and lots of work, but it looks super nice. The Saturday before last, T cleared all the unnecessary cement pavers from the backyard. I just can't wait until they fill in with grass!

4) My family is coming this weekend! I'm so excited to see my parents and my little sister and my in-laws, and my sister-in-law, and my husband's grandparents! Yes, it will be quite the party at the Wolfe House. Some have seen our new house when we moved in and some have not seen it... so, we are working hard to make it look nice. I've still got pictures to hang on the walls and a little cleaning to do but hopefully it all gets done before the crowd shows up tomorrow!

5) I'm looking forward to Fall. I'm excited for the cooler weather, preschool, holidays, and watching The Boy grow more. It will be a fun Fall! Good bye to August!

The Boy's Thumb

The Boy has found his thumb. For weeks he has been constantly bringing his hands to his mouth. He won't take a pacifier no matter how long I try to hold it in his mouth. Well, the passed few days I've noticed him finding just his thumb into his mouth. I say "ahh", grab the camera, and then pull it out (I don't want a child that still sucks their thumb when their five or something and I think it is bad for the teeth, Kyle?) ... but I can't help but think it is a little cute. There is something about him that reminds me of my little brother Nick, probably linked to the sucking thumb thing. I've been thinking a lot about him lately. I miss him. Here is a picture of baby Nick. :D Then Nick at age 2 still sucking his thumb.

Bowling

The Girl had her first experience with bowling today. She did pretty well and had some fun, though she only lasted 5 or 6 frames. The bowling shoes looked soo cute on her I wanted to take them home with us! The Girl would carry that heavy ball to the lane and throw it... mostly downward to the floor, as hard as she could so you could hear a big THUD then she would run back to me and turn around to see how many she had knocked over. Most of the time it took the ball a long time to get down to the end because it had NO forward force but the weight of the ball. It was pretty fun. Next time we will have to take her with some adults so the game can go a little faster.

Friday Five

It has been a nice week. We had a great vacation last week, but it is always nice to come home.
1. Birthday Fun. On T's birthday I made him a nice lasagna dinner and raspberry cheesecake! I let him play his PlayStation game and watch Law and Order while I visited with a co-worker's wife who is pregnant and her husband was out of town. It was nice to have her over for dinner and play with her little boy. He loved The Girl's Buzz Lightyear doll and she had a hard time sharing it.

2. Planned the Baby Blessing. We finally figured out a day for The Boy's baby blessing and purchased a blessing outfit. It will be fun to have all our family here. I'm hoping to get a few more things done around the house so it actually looks different than when everyone came to help us move in! Maybe I'll finally hang up some pictures!

3. Visited with some friends. I love when I have the opportunity to visit with friends. I met a friend at the park on Tuesday and also got to go with another friend to the library on Thursday. Today I got to see many friends at a kids' service group. We made this cute fruit arrangement and took it over to another wife of one of T's co-workers who is pregnant and really sick. She is also allergic to a lot of different foods so the fresh fruit was perfect! It was fun to visit her... on one of her first days of feeling okay since she got pregnant! Poor girl!


4. Fresh Tomatoes! I love having fresh tomatoes. We even ate some fresh green beans this week from my garden! So fun!

5. My sweet kids are going up so fast! The Girl is so loving towards The Boy. He is such a sweet and happy baby. I know I am so blessed and I'm just grateful for them. Yesterday, The Girl wanted to lay on the couch and hold him. He laughs more often now, which is so contagious. :D

Vacation Girl Talk!

So, while on vacation, The Girl said some pretty funny things. I'll need help remembering them all so please leave a comment if you have one.

While driving back to Park City from my parents house, The Girl asked, "Mama, are we on the three way?" I said, "Yes, we are on the free way." Then she replied, "I really want to be on the five way!"

The Girl was pretty hard to handle at night time because of long non-nap exhausting days in the sun. One night she was frustrating T and he had said something to her and her reply was, "I'm just a silly girl, Daddy. I don't know anything."

Talking to Katie: "Katie, you should be married. Then I can wear a pretty dress." Okay, so today we were watching tv and there was a bride and groom on (Rock the Reception... have you seen it?). The Girl said, "She doesn't have wings!" I asked, "Do you want to have (fairy) wings on your wedding day?" The Girl said, "Yes." I'll probably have to remind her of this in 17+ years on her wedding day! :D (Seen Thumbelina? She gets fairy wings on her wedding day at the end.)

This one is a longer story but worth reading! Crazy, crazy story. Our last day on the lake, we went out with the Hayes family so The Girl could go tubing with her friends. It rained a little bit while we were out on the lake but it was the strangest rain because it was so sunny and didn't last but a few minutes. The kids enjoyed singing, "Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day." After tubing a long time we tied the tube to a tree along the shore and Shannon was going to attempt to wake board. The winds picked up rather quickly and the water got really rough. Before we knew it a storm was right over head. We pulled Shannon in and went back to get the tube. As we are driving back to the dock it starts raining, with thunder cracking around us. I have to admit I was pretty scared. We reach the dock and there are tons of boats trying to get out of the water so we just dock the boat. I pull The Girl and Emma off the boat and they huddle together on the dock with a towel over them to block the rain. All of a sudden the rain turns to hard hail! It got up to nickel size and stung like a bee as it hit my legs and arms. I shielded The Boy and T jumped up and shielded the girls while a kind stranger shielded Damion. After tying the boat down, Chris got a sweatshirt to cover T's exposed back from the pounding hail and then shielded the kind stranger. Shannon had her little baby next to me and all the kids were crying except The Boy. He, luckily, had no idea what was going on. We just sat there... it was so crazy. After 5-10 minutes I decided I had had enough and made a run for the car. After reaching the car and getting The Boy in some dry clothes, the hail turned to rain and T came running up with The Girl. She told him on the way up, "It's just a really bad day." In the car The Girl started singing, "Ice, ice, go away. Come again another day." Needless to say, we all survived and have a crazy story to share for years to come. I just hope we don't ever have to TOP this story.

Park City Utah Trip

Our first day on the lake. We had some fun enjoying the sun and getting used to the cold water! The Girl's happy face just before she jumped in.


The Boy was a great baby... as always. He enjoyed the boat when it was moving and stayed out of the sun.


The Girl LOVED driving the boat with Grandpa. He "let" her do the steering and push on the gas and honk the horn (as much as she wanted). She kept saying "I'll do it myself." Thanks for the great memory Grandpa!

T's birthday party. I made these matching shirts and surprised T. When watching shows like American Idol, T often comments how dorky the families look with the contestants faces on their shirts. Don't share your dislikes with this family or it may come back to get you!

The Girl's First Attempt in the Water

Katie took The Girl on her wakeboard at Lake Powell last summer a few times. She even got The Girl to stand on the board and wave and kick at the water. The Girl didn't want to try any of these things this trip. She was too terrified of the water. After T took his turn, we knew why! The water was much colder than at Lake Powell. I think T shivered for a half hour after he got out!

Fun with M's Family

While vacationing in Park City, I was able to get away to see my family! We had dinner together and just had a great time visiting. The Girl loves to play with my mom and sister Kimberly. She always talks about Grandma's play kitchen. My dad loved holding The Boy. :D


My mom and sisters and I went to Thanksgiving Point. We had a fun time watching the kids ride the horses, feed the goats and sheep, and play in the pretend jail. It was a hot day, but fun to be together.

Friday Five

1) We conquered swimming lessons! The Girl had a few rough times this week but overall did much better than last week! She got more used to putting her face in the water while swimming with the teacher and even went all the way under on her own many times while standing on the steps. The last day of class each kid got to pick their favorite thing to do. When the teacher asked The Girl what was her favorite thing to do, she said "painting." The teacher clarified and asked what her favorite thing to do at swim class and I thought she would say, "get candy" but she said "swimming like Ariel with fins (not something they do) and kicking." The teacher was quick to decide they would kick with the kick board, which The Girl enjoyed so much she said she wanted to go again.



2) Nature Center: This week we went to a fun Nature Center that highlights native animals and plants. There was a nice little educational display building and a nature walk. The coolest part were these viewing windows into the river. It was fun to see the huge trout and other fish in the river. It was a nice time with our friends too.


3) Service for Family Group: A new friend of mine started a service for family group where you work on serving other members of your family. It was our first get together and The Girl made a cute card, decorated a clear plastic plate, and the older kids made service coupons for their siblings. It was a great idea and a really fun get together with friends.

4) Watching our baby fish. It is so cool to watch the mother coral the fish in at night and then let them swim in a school during the day. In the morning I can't find any fish because the mom has made them all stay against the rocks for safety during the night. It will be interesting to come back in a week and see how much they have grown!



5) Sweet friend! I love all my sweet friends that do so much for me. Isn't it soo nice when a friend does something really unexpected? One friend brought over a really nice present for The Girl, full of things to do in the car for our drive today. I just couldn't believe it. She is really excited to open it and watch the new Strawberry Shortcake DVD. I hope I can think of something unexpected for my friends in the future. This was a great idea!

And a bonus 6) I'm going on vacation! I get to see all my family and spend a fun relaxing week away from home. I'm sure by week's end I will be ready to get home and back on a normal (nap) schedule but I will definitely want to spend more time with my family. I hope the week goes by slow!
