Lily's spelling list

Just thought this was pretty cool... Here is Lily's spelling list for the week.

beautiful, system, themselves, quite, distance, although, possible, suddenly, language, window, grew.

She has had some difficult words in the past but they are progressively getting harder. (last week she had piece, surface, already, either, whether..)

She is working off of the Sitton Spelling Word List 1200 High-Frequency Writing Words. These words are listed in the order of their frequency of use in everyday writing. The first 25 words are used in 33% of everyday writing. The first 100 words appear in 50% of adult and student writing, and the first 1,000 words are used in 89% of everyday writing.

She has passed off over 500 words so far! She is also 75% proficient in the next large group of words that her teacher pre-tested her on. We will keep working on it through the summer, but I'm hoping she can make it through the 1000 list before the beginning of 2nd grade! :)

More Art Time

This past week I did a fun art project with my art class at the local rec center. We took a basic coloring book style drawing of Van Gogh's Starry Night and colored it using oil pastels. Then we painted over it with black paint (and a drop of liquid dish detergent) and scratched into it to create the textured effect of the original work. I think they turned out awesome!

Below is Lily's finished work. She didn't really want to take her time on the scratching part like I was hoping.

Then I got to go into Lily's classroom at school and do the cave paintings with them. They all came up with some great animals to paint! Below is Lily's painting with a bunch of snakes.

Busy in Art Preschool

A couple weeks ago we did shaving cream paintings... they were messy but super fun to make.

Here are a few pictures of preschool play time while everyone is arriving. I love these kids!

This past week we learned about cave paintings! Then we painted our own up on the wall.

They also added their hand prints, like they have found in some caves. Then we gave each other a high five. :)

These two actually looked like animals! Way to go girls!

Merry Christmas - Part 2 - California

We drove down to California on Christmas Eve, just in time for Santa to come!

Here are the kids in their matching pjs I made them. (I made some for my sister's kids too but we didn't get a picture)
Christmas morning: Boys woke up at 7 p.m. (like usual). Lily had to be convinced to wake up (like usual).

Dorky picture of me but oh well... Lily was soo excited to get a karaoke machine, she delighted us with a few songs right away.

One of the kids gifts was to be able to go to see Toy Story 3 ON ICE! Lily woke up sick that morning so she did not get to go but Mom and Isaac had a great time together. Isaac said to me, "Mom, I have this movie!" He loved it!

Merry Christmas - Part 1 - UTAH!

We had a great Christmas! First we drove up to Utah to see my family, including my sister and nephew that live in Texas! We had fun playing games, bouncing with cousins, and making gingerbread houses... along with visiting, unwrapping gifts and eatting yummy food.
